Pleated Blouse “Rose”

A blouse of my own design.  My husband gave me an old shirt that he didn’t want anymore, and the fabric fit in perfectly with others that I’m using in my new wardrobe.  So, I designed a shirt for it!

I plan to make a pattern for this to post on BurdaStyle.  I will also try to post it here.

My inspiration came from oonaballoona’s happy camo shirt on BurdaStyle, but I knew I didn’t want spaghetti straps (work appropriate only), so I played around with the design.  I actually used the basic shape of Simplicity 2846, for the top.

This shirt took me so long to make.  Partly because of fussing with pattern making, and mostly because of the small amount of material I had to work with!  I got really frustrated toward the end because I didn’t have enough fabric for the bottom pieces.  So, I had to leave the sides open.  The pattern would not be made this way.

“Rose” is an intricate pleated front blouse with back zip closure. Details include waistband, neck yoke cut on bias, and cap sleeves. Both front and back darts keep this blouse from seeming boxy. Facings for both the neckband and waistband help to finish the inside. Dress it up or down and add a tie or belt around the waistband for extra interest.
