Fun Linen Dress

This is a dress I created using BS 03-2009 #121.  I LOVE it!  I used the pleated waistband from 08-2009 #132 for a different effect, and left off the back waistband.  I found this fabric at JoAnns (kind of surprising I think), and couldn’t resist.  It’s a linen/cotton blend I think.  It doesn’t wrinkle as easily as pure linen, but still does some.  The only other big change I made was the shortened hem (3″ as always).  I’m thinking it may even need to be a bit shorter?  I can’t decide.

This dress is partly lined as you can see from the pictures.  However I was in too much of a hurry to finish the seams, so they are just pinked and exposed.  Nothing fancy.  I still need to work on the gathering that is a bit wonky.  I always have trouble sewing such a big gathered piece.  The raw edges always end up poking out here and there…

This is the first piece I’ve finished for the wardrobe contest that may or may not get completely this round.
